Ingredients:
For the Chicken:
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized chunks
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 2 eggs, beaten
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Sauce:
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 3 tbsp rice vinegar
- 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 1 tsp chili flakes (adjust to taste)
Instructions:
- Prep the chicken: Season the chicken with salt and pepper. Dip each piece into beaten egg, then coat with cornstarch.
- Fry: Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Fry chicken until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- Make the sauce: In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, vinegar, hoisin, sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and chili flakes. Bring to a simmer.
- Thicken: Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
- Combine: Toss the fried chicken in the sauce until well coated.
- Serve: Enjoy hot over steamed rice and garnish with green onions or sesame seeds.
Tips:
- For extra crispiness, double-fry the chicken.
- Add steamed broccoli or snap peas for a complete meal.
- Make it vegetarian by using crispy tofu instead of chicken.
This General Tso’s Chicken is crispy, flavorful, and so satisfying—you’ll never miss the takeout version again.
